- Build hills, sift sand through your fingers, push it around with your hands, dig holes and more!
- Put a spray bottle filled with water near the sand. Let the kids wet down the sand and play. They can make prints, dig tunnels, mold shapes etc.
- Have several small trays and magnifying glasses. Put a little sand on a tray and look at it very carefully with the glass.
- Fill a spray bottle with water, wet down the sand and play 'copy cat' with the kids. Use your finger to draw a very simple design in the sand and have the kids copy your design.
- Put a large packing box in the sand box to use as a zoo, and add zoo animals, popsicle sticks, tongue depressors and mini people.
- Hide a variety of small toys and items in the sand box and let the kids play hide and seek to find them. A variation on this is to have two of each item and play a matching game in the sand with the items.
Sand Activities
- Every once in a while change the color of the sand that the kids play with, or try a different texture sand.
- Have an assortment of different size containers and encourage kids to talk about and describe the different sizes.
