Toddler Learning Activities: Paint Recipes
Cornstarch Fingerpaint
3 Tbl cornstarch
1 cup + 3 Tbl water
food coloring
few drops liquid detergent
Mix cornstarch and 3 Tbl water. Boil 1 cup water and add to cornstarch/water mixture, stirring constantly. Add a few drops of liquid detergent. Add food coloring. Store in airtight container in refrigerator.
Flour Fingerpaint
1 cup all-purpose flour
4 cups water
Food coloring
Combine flour and 1 cup water in a large saucepan. Stir until smooth. Add the remaining 3 cups water and place over medium heat. Bring the mixture to a sustained boil (cannot be stirred down) for 1 minute then remove from heat. Let cool. Pour into 3 or 4 separate cups (paper cups, plastic bowls, etc.) and add different colors of food coloring to each cup. Store the paint in air-tight containers.
Kool-Aid Fingerpaint
1 cup flour
1 pack unsweetened Kool-Aid
1/4 cup salt
1-1/2 cups boiling water
1-1/2 Tbl vegetable oil
Combine dry ingredients. Add water and oil to dry ingredients.
Puff Paint
White glue
Shaving Cream
Food coloring
Paint brushes.
Add some glue into a small disposable container. Then add food coloring to the glue. Next, add some shaving cream to the glue and food coloring mixture. Stir until all shaving cream is colored, You might have to add more food coloring. Make all sorts of different colors in separate disposable containers. Paint pictures with your mixtures. Paint on Thick. Let dry.
Shaving Cream Paint
Add a few drops of red or yellow paint to shaving cream. Have the children use this to paint with. Not mixing the paint in will give it a special look. Encourage children to fingerpaint with different motions, their knuckles or fingernails etc. Have them make designs, pictures, shapes, letters, etc.
